ArcheAge the popular triple A MMORPG being released by XL Games and managed by Trion Worlds is receiving a lot of hate criticism from the community on its open world PvP system. This is a system were once you hit level 30 you are sent out to basically fend for yourself and community is not liking the higher level enemies jumping them. Level 50’s can jump level 30’s and the community is up in arms over this issue however, it is working as intended. Also the players are not being constantly attacked as the higher levels are receiving no reward for killing you so it is not a constant issue.
However, this raises the question of open world PvP is it okay should they use a flag system which means you can be attacked if you choose to or should it always be open and ready to be ganked. This question has been answered by many MMORPGS and they have each given a unique way to come past the issue. World Of Warcraft uses a flag system unless in direct enemy territory then you are flagged for PvP automatically.
SWTOR decided to make open world PvP tied to specific planets Guild Wars 2 dedicated a whole zone to open world PvP. There are many ways to look at this but a full open world PvP game has not had much success because most gamers prefer a PvE game but with optional PvP. Meaning it is not forced on them but they have it to pass the time and to get better gear. This is what makes it difficult to them to make a change because they would have redesign that part of the game and some of the player base loves it some hate it who do you side with either way when controversy like this comes up in gaming you are going to lose one group you cant expect to keep both when they both want the opposite ideas.
ArcheAge has risen to be one of the most hyped games of the year however, what can you do with the game still in Alpha the key to get in is $150 and the player base is becoming split on many issues. Sit back watch and enjoy the show and we will see how things turn out for the community in ArcheAge.
What do you think of open world PvP.?Should it be optional or should it always be on what are your thoughts on the issue?
